David just got out of the hospital. Doctor said he has acites in which there is increased pressure in the liver blood flow. Increase edema of body fluid due to an imbalance of pressure between inside the circulation (high blood system) and outside, in this cause the abdominal cavity (low pressure space). The increase in portal blood pressure and decrease in albumin (a protein that is carried in the blood) may be responsible in forming the pressure gradient and resulting in abdominal ascites.

Factors that may be contributing to ascites are salt and water retention. The circulating blood volume may be perceived low by the sensors in the kidneys as the formation of ascites may deplete some volume from the blood. This signals the kidneys to reabsorb more salt and water to compensate for the volume loss, and there are other related ascites symptoms. Luckily these don't apply to David right now.

My father, a kidney patient who had this at times so I'm familiar with the fluid build up within the peritoneal cavity from which he used this area for dialysis. He is due to have a return doctor visit to test his kidney functioning due to his medication long term side effect of kidney trouble while on it, but David will only be on it for a short time.
